Social media have made our lives easier in a lot of ways — from getting the latest news sent immediately to our smartphones to just keeping in touch with friends and family on the fly.

But these instant connections have also come at a cost, giving an edge to those with more sinister motives: stalkers, pedophiles and sexual predators.

It’s a troubling thought, but your children and loved ones could be in danger without ever actually leaving home. This next video will make you think twice about what you, or your loved ones, put online.

This video above was based off a real life event that happened 1 month ago:
Tim LeBlanc happened to be up around 2 a.m. Monday morning and noticed his 12-year-old daughter was gone, and her bedroom window open.

First For You:

  • Don’t be afraid to keep tabs on who you’re children are chatting with online. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
  • Try to limit their use of computers and phones at home to common areas, so you know when they’re using social media.
  • Meet and get to know their friends. Let them know they can always talk to you if they suspect your loved ones are in over their heads.
  • Stress the importance of being smart about what your loved ones post online. Not only for their safety, but for yours and that of those close to them as well. You’d be surprised about what others can find out about you with a few clicks of the mouse.
